resizing & thumbnailing images

Is there a way in Frontpage 2002/2003 to create a new resized image(s) in a
directory? I'd like to convert the list of images in a directory(and
sub-directory) to a new resized image and a thumbnail.

you could use the auto thumbnail but it's not automatic to the whole folder.
if you want to do it automatically there are a number of apps. I use
smartsaver pro by www.ulead.com they should have a free download. it'll
make thumbnails, change the compression on the originals all in one shot on
a file by file or folder basis. it's a very good program.

that'd be good to create batches, but Ruby would still have to create the links between orig and thumb.

ends up taking the same amount of time.

but Crash,
you've gotta see the compression from smart saver. it's just unbelievable.
I don't know why it works so much better than all the other stuff I've tried
but it does. maybe it's voodoo.

yah, i know.

i usually use ps6/image ready, ulead (but i only have the trial v), photophilia, irfranview...whatever strikes my fancy that day - usually ps6 but their batch feature is clunky.

side issue; what do you use (if anything) to create transparent spacer .gif's? In PS its a pain in the buttola.

I use photo impact from ulead. My problem is that I bought and learned it a
while ago. now that I'm trying to switch to Photoshop for everything it's
very painful.
here's the way I do it:
file/ new/ image
I specify the background to be transparent and set it's dimensions to
whatever I want the spacer to be.
a new image is created. hit the f4 button to fire up a fairly good
optimizer and select gif with transparency and set color palate very low.
hit save and there it is.
it's real quick. but you know were not supposed to be using spacers. it's
all .css ya know. ;-)

You only need to have a single transparent GIF image in your web, then you
would just re-size it as needed.
